Learning How to Be Comfortable at Home Again

Home is supposed to be the place where you can relax.

That's why it can feel strange when your brace first arrives and suddenly your favorite spots don't feel quite the same.

The couch feels different.

Your bed feels different.

Your desk feels different.

Even the way you curl up to watch a movie may feel different.

During the first month, many teens spend a lot of time figuring out what works best.

You learn which positions feel comfortable.

You learn how to arrange pillows.

You learn how to relax while wearing your brace.

At first, it can feel like you're constantly making adjustments.

Then something interesting starts to happen.

You stop thinking about it so much.

You naturally settle into positions that work.

You develop routines without even realizing it.

Your body learns.

Your brain learns.

Life becomes easier.

One of the best parts about being home is that there is less pressure.

You don't have to worry about school.

You don't have to worry about other people.

You can simply focus on figuring out what helps you feel comfortable.

Many teens discover that home becomes the place where they gain confidence with their brace.

It's where they learn that they can still relax.

They can still enjoy their favorite activities.

They can still have fun.

The brace may be part of everyday life now, but it doesn't stop everyday life from happening.

The more time passes, the more your home starts feeling like home again.

And that's an important part of adjusting.
