The Brace Is the Medicine, The Hours Are the Dose

One of the most important ideas to understand during bracing is actually very simple.

The brace is the medicine.

The hours are the dose.

Most people understand medicine.

If a doctor prescribes medication, they don't just prescribe the medication itself.

They prescribe how much.

How often.

How consistently.

The same idea applies to bracing.

The brace only works when it is worn.

And the number of hours matters.

That doesn't mean every day has to be perfect.

It doesn't mean you should panic over every mistake.

It simply means consistency matters.

A lot.

During the first month, many teens focus on how uncomfortable the brace feels.

That's understandable.

The adjustment is real.

The challenge is real.

But it can help to remember why you're doing this.

You are not wearing the brace because someone wants to make your life difficult.

You are wearing it because it is a treatment.

A treatment designed to help manage your scoliosis.

Thinking about the brace as medicine can sometimes change the way you look at it.

Medicine is not always fun.

Medicine is not always convenient.

Medicine sometimes has side effects.

But we use treatments because they have a purpose.

The same is true here.

One thing that helps many teens is focusing on consistency rather than perfection.

There will be good days.

There will be difficult days.

There will be days when motivation is high.

There will be days when motivation is nowhere to be found.

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is staying committed over time.

The first month is often where those habits begin.

You are building routines.

You are building consistency.

You are building trust in yourself.

Every day you follow your treatment plan is evidence that you can do hard things.

That evidence matters.

Because confidence often comes from keeping promises to yourself.

And every brace day is another promise kept.
