The First Time You Really Don't Want to Put It Back On
Almost every teen has this moment.
You take the brace off for a shower, an activity, or a break.
Then the time comes to put it back on.
And suddenly you don't want to.
Not a little.
A lot.
You stare at the brace.
You delay.
You find something else to do.
You tell yourself you'll put it on in a few more minutes.
This moment surprises many teens because it often arrives after things seemed to be going fairly well.
You may have been following the plan.
You may have been staying consistent.
Then one day the motivation just isn't there.
That experience is normal.
In fact, it is one of the most common moments of the first month.
The brace feels easy to wear when you're motivated.
The real challenge comes when motivation disappears.
That is when commitment takes over.
One thing that helps is remembering that not wanting to do something and not doing it are two different things.
You are allowed to not feel like putting your brace back on.
You are allowed to feel frustrated.
You are allowed to wish you didn't have to wear it.
Those feelings are part of the process.
The important thing is what happens next.
Many successful brace wearers have had this exact moment.
The difference is that they put the brace back on anyway.
Not because they felt inspired.
Not because they suddenly became excited.
Because they made a decision.
A decision to keep going.
A decision to stay consistent.
A decision to trust the treatment plan.
The first time you really don't want to put the brace back on can actually become an important milestone.
Because it teaches you something.
You can follow through even when you don't feel like it.
That is real strength.
And every time you do it, that strength grows a little more.
