You Don't Have to Earn Your Worth

One of the most important things to understand about scoliosis has nothing to do with curves, X-rays, or doctor's appointments.

It has to do with your value.

Your worth does not come from your spine.

It does not come from your appearance.

It does not come from a number on an X-ray.

And it certainly does not come from being perfect.

Many teens quietly start measuring themselves after a diagnosis.

They compare themselves to other people.

They compare themselves to who they used to be.

They compare themselves to who they wish they were.

The problem with comparison is that it always moves the finish line.

No matter what you accomplish, comparison tells you it isn't enough.

The truth is much simpler.

You were valuable before scoliosis.

You are valuable with scoliosis.

And you will be valuable regardless of what happens in the future.

Your kindness has value.

Your character has value.

Your sense of humor has value.

Your dreams have value.

Your friendships have value.

The things that make you who you are matter far more than any curve measurement ever will.

You do not need to prove that you're strong enough.

You do not need to prove that you're brave enough.

You do not need to prove that you're worthy of love, friendship, respect, or happiness.

You already are.

One of the healthiest things you can do is stop treating your worth like something that needs to be earned.

Because your value isn't something you achieve.

It's something you already have.

And scoliosis cannot take that away from you.
