Scoliosis Can Make You Feel Different
One of the hardest parts of scoliosis is not always the physical part.
Sometimes it's the feeling of being different.
You may look around at your classmates, your friends, or people on social media and wonder why you have to deal with something they don't.
You may feel like nobody understands what it's like.
You may feel like you're carrying something that separates you from everyone else.
Those feelings are incredibly common.
In fact, almost everyone with scoliosis experiences them at some point.
The important thing to understand is that feeling different and being alone are not the same thing.
Millions of people have scoliosis.
Millions.
People of different ages.
Different backgrounds.
Different countries.
Different experiences.
Some are being monitored.
Some wear braces.
Some have had surgery.
Some barely think about their scoliosis anymore.
You are part of a much larger group than you realize.
The challenge is that scoliosis can sometimes make you focus on the thing that makes you different instead of all the things that make you similar to everyone else.
You still have dreams.
You still have friends.
You still have hobbies.
You still have strengths.
You still have things that make you laugh.
You still have things that make you excited about the future.
Those parts of you matter far more than a curve measurement.
One thing that helps is remembering that everyone has something.
Not everyone has scoliosis.
But everyone has insecurities.
Everyone has challenges.
Everyone has things they wish were different.
The struggles may not look the same, but they exist.
You are not the only person trying to navigate something difficult.
The goal is not to become exactly like everyone else.
The goal is to become comfortable being yourself.
Because the truth is that our differences are part of what make us interesting.
Part of what make us unique.
Part of what make us human.
Scoliosis may make you feel different sometimes.
That feeling is real.
But it does not mean you don't belong.
And it certainly does not mean you are alone.
